Potential lameness.  Prison Break w/o Wentworth Miller?!

    Quote

Fox has ordered up another season of Prison Break, from 20th Century Fox TV.  With its return to primetime in April, Prison Break has thus far averaged a 4.4/12 A18-49 rating on Mondays at 8p.  I suppose people can only break out of prison so many times, and that's why next season will focus more on the officials' hunt for prison escapees. Other recent pickups for next year on Fox include Bones, House, The Simpsons (duh), Family Guy and King of the Hill.

My eyes are still red... [SFU]

Figured that title would get a few clicks.  :P  Seriously tho.  I just finished watching the last two episodes of Six Feet Under.  I had no idea it was going to be this powerful.

I watched.  I laughed...many times over.  I cried.  It has been a very long time since a television program has been able to really get to me like that.  I laughed and cried at the same time.  It grabbed me so much I couldn't just lay down and watch, but I sat up and rocked myself like a baby as life and death of these characters I invested 5 years in sped before my eyes.  More importantly, it made me reflect on things in my own life...you just gotta live...even more...fight to live.

Two New Cable Channels; Logo Launches in 5hrs!

For some reason my cable channel lineup data has yet to be updated, but I manually added the two new channels in MCE that my cable company is offering as of today.

The first is (yay) NBC Weather Plus, a new national cable weather channel that plugs into the local NBC Affiliate in your region for updated local forecasts with your favourite local NBC meteorologist.  I look forward to how they cover the upcoming hurricane season with the resources of NBC News & MSNBC.  (Channel 304 in Los Angeles)  Find out if your local NBC channel has Weather Plus!

The second is the launch of the new Gay & Lesbian cable channel called LOGOTheir website has this nifty lil countdown clock going as I type this.  We're under 5hrs away from its launch!  Filling the scheduling will be a multitude of movies including The Birdcage, Philadelphia and Kissing Jessica Stein, as well as the miniseries Angels in America which originally aired on HBO and the GLAAD Media Awards on July 24. Tomorrow night the first program to air on LOGO will be a documentary called The Evolution Will Be Televised, beginning at 9pm.  Original series for LOGO will include: Open Bar, set to debut in September, is a reality series about a man coming out during the time he is also opening a gay bar; travel series Round Trip Ticket airs on Friday nights at 11p; Monday nights at 10p is First Comes Love where Scott Thompson helps to play gay weddings; and the October debut of Noah's Arc about a young screenwriter and his three friends.  Theme nights are Wednesdays music; Thursdays comedy and Friday travel.

Anyone know an uber-Trekkie in the Los Angeles area that has always wanted to have their room look like a set from Star Trek?  Here is their chance!!  LOL

    How 'bout those Slave Girls?

Anyone else find last nights Enterprise very enjoyable?  All around a very good episode!  Even though I'm gay...I found my jaw dropped at the end of that Orion Slave Girl dance sequence.  haha  The humour was good...something that had been sorely lacking in Star Trek: Enterprise until this season.  It makes me sad that these are the final episodes.

Related notes:  TrekWeb has video coverage of the Enterprise wrap party that took place this week.  Also, word that the creative genius behind Odyssey 5 and this season of Enterprise, Manny Coto, is planning to pitch a new Star Trek option to Paramount in the weeks ahead.  Star Trek is not dead.

Not so related, but what the heck:  Getty Images has a shot of Brandon Routh in his first day of filming in Sydney for "Superman Returns".

Talking about The Barry Gibb Talk Show

Ed posted a download link to a clip from this past Saturday Night Live. (gee, it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact Justin Timberlake was in it? )  Justin Timberlake & Jimmy offer up a sequel to a Barry Gibb skit they did last year.

Good stuff, go check it out.  You'll get an extra kick out of it if you track politics and watch cable news.  Drew Barrymore does a near-perfect impersonation of right-wing shedevil Ann Coulter (whom at one time or another has been linked romantically to Comedian & Progressively minded Bill Maher).  Wish she was given more screentime in this skit!  haha

    The Barry Gibb Talk Show

Normally, I like to keep this blog strictly business - but every so often something comes up that I just can't pass by. Like this priceless skit from two years ago on Saturday Night Live - of which I heard both Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake made special appearances on the show last week just to do the skit again.

    Enjoy

Buzz: Paramount halts Enterprise set 'Destruct Sequence'

Word has leaked (I know I'm a day late here!) that Paramount has struck down the original order to destroy Enterprise's sets...instead changing the order to 'Hold n Fold'.  Basically what this means is that none of the Enterprise sets are going to be destroyed, but rather saved and moved into studio space for storage.  The underlining hope here is that there may be some future outlet for Enterprise to once again grace our Media Center PCs.

Donations to Trek United, a offshoot of Save Enterprise has reached over $3.1M.

Investors in commercial space flight industry anonymously contribute $3-million to TrekUnited

Money pledged to fund a fifth season of Star Trek: Enterprise

TrekUnited.com today announced that three anonymous contributors have stepped forward with a $3 million pledge toward the campaign to ensure a fifth season for the recently cancelled Star Trek: Enterprise.

Paramount Network Television and the United Paramount Network (UPN) jointly announced on Feb. 3 that this would be the last season of Enterprise on UPN. Fans pooled their skills, time and finances to form TrekUnited.com in an effort to fight the decision by raising money themselves to pay for a fifth season of the on-going space adventure.

The benefactors also added a statement explaining why they believe this campaign deserves such a substantial contribution:

“We think Star Trek and especially its latest incarnation, “Enterprise” is the kind of TV that should be aired more often. The people responsible at Paramount think this is just a show and we want to tell them, it is not.

We are in the commercial space flight industry and would like to testify that at least one out of two of all the actual entrepreneurs involved in this industry has been inspired by Star Trek; and we are not only good at watching TV sci-fi, we are also good at writing checks, big checks.

The people airing this kind of TV have a responsibility; inspiration. Star Trek has inspired us, and particularly
Enterprise, with its superb theme song that tells so much about our struggle to move space travel forward and closer to the public, this inspiration is so self evident, that Virgin Galactic has ordered a 5-sub orbital ship fleet from Scaled Composites, a 100 million dollar investment, and the first one being built is going to be christened ‘VSS Enterprise.’ Now doesn’t that ring a bell in Paramount’s ears?

Now, canceling the series so bluntly, for the sake of just ratings, tells very much about the kind of thinking going on inside Paramount. If we thought the same way, Paul Allen would have never funded the SpaceShipOne program. Sir Richard Branson would never have funded Virgin Galactic and Space Adventures would never have put two space tourists aboard the International Space Station. Instead, we would all be at home watching Survivor or some other reality TV show.

Enterprise needs to be renewed, for the sake of fan loyalty, for being quality TV, for bringing imagination and hope for a better future to our homes, but over all that, for inspiring us so strongly that we have fought all our adult lives to bring that future closer to our children and to us.”

TrekUnited Director Tim Brazeal also stated contributions like this one brings the campaign much closer to its goal.

“We are overwhelmed at the generosity of these fellow Star Trek fans,” Brazeal said. “We believe that Enterprise deserves a future. With contributions like the one from these generous individuals and those of millions of other Star Trek fans worldwide, we will succeed.”

Under the terms of the TrekUnited charter, the campaign will be able to give the money to anything that will guarantee a fifth season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

    Last Week's Enterprise Rating

Last week's kickass episode of Enterprise on UPN, "The Aenar" was seen by 3.17M people...the highest number of viewers so far in 2005.  Perhaps a reaction to news of its cancellation.

The ironic thing is that Enterprise was the #1 Drama on UPN last week...with Veronica Mars seeing 2.97M viewers, and the fast sinking ship known as Kevin Hill meeting only 1.97M viewers.  What backass logic to cancel Enterprise in the face of numbers like this.

Here is the list of viewers in millions for every episode this season:

    Storm front 2.89
    Storm front II 3.11
    Home 3.16
    Borderland 3.18
    Cold Station 12 3.39
    The Augments 3.39
    The Forge 3.15
    Awakening 3.38
    Kir'Shara 3.20

    -- six week break --

    Daedalus 3.03
    Observer Effect 2.76
    Babel One 2.53
    United 2.81
    The Aenar 3.17

Sci-Fi would love numbers like this...

    Depressing News: Enterprise Cancelled

Those of you who know me personally are aware of the toxic levels of 'Trek' in my blood.    Unfortunately, after 4 years, Star Trek: Enterprise has been cancelled by CBS/UPN.

Ironic in that this 4th season, creatively, is its best yet.  Up against Sci-Fi's Friday lineup, Enterprise has been beaten the last three weeks.  With UPN working to reinvent itself yet again; there was no timeslot for UPN to put Enterprise.  Cost cutting couldn't bridge the gap and our latest Trek is airing its last episode in May.

I'm totally bummed.  I'll savour these last episodes remaining, knowing that this is it for quite some time.

If you find yourself at home on a Friday night between now and May...flip the dial over to UPN; give Enterprise a nice parting beam out!

    NBC reveals 2005-2006 series plans

Wave after wave of 'reality' television, most of which I had no interest in, saw me watching less hours of the boob tube for a couple years.  Surprisingly, in this last season, scripted television has returned with a flourish...and I'm knee deep in several sweet new shows.

NBC has had what most would call a lackluster season so far...to try and get out of that rut, they've jump started the industry in announcing some of their pilot commitments to try and snag talent before other networks do.

    http://www.nbcumv.com/release_detail.nbc/entertainment-20050121000000-nbcgetsthejumpin.html

Of the shows they've announced...a couple seem interesting.  E-Ring sounds promising, as does "World of Trouble".  I really enjoyed TNT's miniseries "The Grid" which had a decidedly post-9/11 bent to it.  In the comedy category, I like the idea behind "Four Kings"...which is being written by the gay duo behind Will & Grace.  "Lies & The Wives We Tell Them To" sounds to me like a "Desperate Housewives" knockoff...but with men instead of women?  Most intriguing to me is the concept behind "Fathom".  It appears to be in the same vein as "24", "Alias", and "Lost"...with big plots that get unwoven over the length of a season.  Not to mention it is Sci-Fi which some of you know gets me going.

What do you guys think?  Will any of these be a hit?

Battlestar Galatica Miniseries to air on NBC!

NBC is taking a page out of the 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' playbook and multipurposing the Sci-Fi hit Battlestar Galactica.  This will open up the potential for millions of new viewers to sample the show before the first season of Battlestar Galactica airs on Sci-Fi the next week.

Any 'BSG' fans here?    I have to admit that I have never actually seen the original 1970s version of Battlestar Galactica.

    Critics Raves About Tonight's "Kir'Shara"

Star Trek: Enterprise is finally growing up!  I watched tonight's episode last night, and let me tell you this triology that wraps up with "Kir'Shara" is easily some of the best Trek I've watched in years.    I love all this backstory on the history of Star Trek we're getting to see...and given what goes down in this episode, it looks like we'll be seeing some of these characters again in the not so distant future!

If you've turned your back on Star Trek: Enterprise over the last three years, this is the year to take a chance and sample it once more!  It airs tonight, Fridays, at 8pm on UPN.
