February 26 27!So I turned 27 10 hours ago! Dunno why, but I was the first one to wake up 'the morning after' here at my friend's house. Thing is, I only just got to bed at 6am! At least my eyes shut before the first rays of morning sunshine flooded the house. :) Stream of consciousness from the night follows...
Bacardi + Jacuzzi with a mix of gay and straight men make for quite an interesting night. October 27 George Takei, ‘Mr. Sulu,’ says he’s gay Wow. Those of you who know me, know I'm a bit of a trekkie.
Those of us who are gay and love Star Trek always suspected George Takei was gay...but now he's out and proud! Go Sulu! He and his partner have been together for 18 full years. Check out the full story on MSNBC.com below. As of this post, it was the 5th most viewed article on MSNBC.com!

September 09 That was awkward...Sitting here in Starbucks talking to a co-worker over the phone, and this girl I only just barely noticed in my peripherial vision comes up to me..."I never do this but"...and proceeds to nervously ask me out on a date. LOL! Stunned (it has been awhile); I search for the right words while I hear my co-worker hacking up a lung over the phone she is laughing so hard. Flattered I was...but that is never going to work.
I have to wonder how that made her feel. She had the guts to come up and ask...so I hope/imagine she has some internal fortitude to get rejected by a gay man. heh Any of you have any such stories?
September 07 FIRST: California Legislature OKs gay marriage bill [updaed]Been following this for weeks...finally got the alert in my email I've been waiting for. California has become the first state in the union to see its elected represenatives officially support and enact gay marriage.
Problem? The Governator has to sign it first. I know quite a few gay people who might start kicking themselves about now (as if they shouldn't have been already). He's in quite he pickle! His poll numbers are as low as the Governor he kicked out of office in the recall election...which side of the ideological spectrum does he need to kiss ass to? He can forget about running for anything on a national scale in the near-term if he were to sign that bill. Hopefully he'll forget about the political realities, and go with his heart...he's made positive comments about gay marriage before he started running for office.
The article states that there was no official response in time for putting up the story...it just came in:
Kinda funny...so *now* those who oppose gay marriage love the courts and believe it should be settled there. heh heh heh How transparent... Quote
August 11 Frmr CNN reporter Jason Bellini reports for LOGOLogo, the first national gay cable network has signed former CNN reporter Jason Bellini to host news segments on the channel. I was wondering when this was going to come about...they promised a news element to the network not long after they launched.
Jason has the chops...his reports on CNN were frequently insightful, especially during the war. I look forward to seeing his reports on Logo!
Quote Logo Network To Partner with CBS News | BCBeat June 30 LOGO Launches! Two years in the making; Logo launches! I'll fill this space with my initial thoughts...launch is 3 minutes away!
With a few friends at hand, we watched the launch of Logo. It is always fun to watch history being made on some level. I can remember how giddy I was when Queer As Folk hit the airwaves. It was the first in your face unapologetic tale of gay life...fictionalized of course.
At any rate, the first two hours was filled with an extensive documentary recapping the last 50 years of the Gay Rights struggle. For the most part...it was nothing I didn't already know (save maybe the All in the Family segment), however it was refreshing to kind of look back in history and see how we got to where we are today. Talk about a rollercoaster ride. It was emotional at times...especially in the 80s during the height of the AIDS crisis. I was barely moving past a toddler at the time to really know what was going on. How the country & the government reacted (or in the latter; did NOT react) is so disappointing. I lost an uncle to AIDS in the early 90s so it hits close to home. How that daily struggle gave way to the jubilation of a new government in the Clinton administration was striking. I was still too young to truly value the importance of that change. Next time I won't be. I will do what I can in 2008 to elect a more progressive, thoughtful administration.
All in all...it was an exciting two hour launch to a new media outlet for our stories and thoughts to be told to each other and the world at large. May 11 Spotlight on "Logo"Logo is MTV Network's forthcoming gay network, launching on June 30th! The website has been updated with more programming details, including clips from upcoming programs. In addition, you can register with Logo and have them tell your cable or satellite tv provider that you are interested in having Logo if they don't show up on the current carriage list. So, if you are interested...go sign up and tell your friends about it too!
Logo released some more information on shows that were given the greenlight for airing this fall:
May 10 Life HappensSo I've been getting a lot of punishment in email & IM for being silent here. What has been going on? Family visiting, aero bed, Disneyland, Universal, Beach, work, sprained ankle, 36hr stomach bug, not a single gym visit, new tablet pc, new printer, work, work and more work. I've had spots of time in the last three weeks...but I've chosen not to spend em online. I have a rather busy work + social calendar the next week and a half too. Star Wars 12:15 am Thursday at Cinema de lux. A friend is flying in from out of town for E3 starting on Friday. Work Saturday. Off Sunday + another friend's bday. I fly up to Redmond next Tuesday and come back a week from this Sunday. Some pride festivities going on that Sunday; maybe I'll get home early enough to participate with my friends. April 12 This summer, just put it in a sling!haha, okay. I've been getting complaints in IM that I'm focusing too much on tech! (I've been planning a lot of other posts...but time has gotten away from me) I really wasn't sure what category to file this under. Just when you thought swimwear couldn't get any more interesting from a male perspective...off they go and innovate some more! I'd have to kill off a good 15lbs to put these on and I certainly wouldn't wear em at the beach! Maybe Palm Springs or at a pool party. Quote C-IN2 Swimwear at International Jock April 08 Talking about Serving OpenlyThis is an interesting article. Some informative facts & figures about how many gays have been discharged, and some roughly guesswork on how many gays are serving currently in the armed forces. The United Kingdom opened up their armed forces to openly gay men and woman not so long ago...I haven't heard of any major repercussions from that action as yet. What do you guys think? Is it time for "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (the very name of this policy is insulting) to get the drop-kick? My eastern seaboard conservative friends tell me time and time again that I live in a west coast "bubble"...maybe I do. But "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" smacks of third grade style diplomacy. Just ignoring it won't make it go away. In the meantime, thousands of gay members of our armed forces continue to hide and live dual lives. Quote My Way News: Gay Soilder wants to serve openly March 14 Same-sex marriage and (gasp) animals!Ron Reagan Jr. makes me crack up here. I've had one-on-one discussions with 'friends' in college who also make the leap from homosexuality to beastiality. I never understood the connection. Nobody I know in my circle of friends, straight, bisexual, or gay have an affinity for the four-legged kind. Why does this association with animals keep coming up? Is it a way to shock Middle America into believing gay marriage will lead to man-dog marriage? Perhaps. Personally; I think it is a healthy dollop of naivete. They don't know many gay people and their imaginations run away with all sorts of sick ideas. Really, to them, it is just about the sex. They can't distinguish the sexual act from love & committment. It makes it easier to leap to conclusions about what sexual deprived act we may engage in next. Scaremongering rarely works when it is so out of bounds. WOW! That makes two gay-themed posts in a row. Gotta be a record for me here. "no rational purpose exists"Today, the San Francisco County Superior Court Judge rendered his ruling on the lawsuits surrounding the gay marriage ban. Saying that "no rational purposes exists" to limiting marriage to opposite-sex partners only and that the ban is unconstitutional. As California has the nation's largest pool of same-sex couples, the courtroom proceedings were being watched carefully. More than likely, this will be appealed and end up in the California Supreme Court within a year. It is important to note that the California Supreme Court has had some history in this realm...being the first court in the nation to strike down interracial marriage bans. I don't know about you; but I feel this whole situation has an air of inevitability around it. [Article: http://www.advocate.com/new_news.asp?ID=15419&sd=03/14/05] March 07 The worst kept secret at CNN is about to get 'outed'Anderson Cooper. Millions of teenagers watched him report for Channel One News from world hot spots like Rwanda, Somalia, Iraq, and Bosnia. Then they watched him again as he hosted ABC's "The Mole" for a couple of years. When I was in Middle & High School, he far and away my favourite reporter. While everyone else latched onto who was hot & sexy, I admired and respected Anderson Cooper for his quality work. Not to mention the fact that he had to have some guts to get in front of the camera with what was a rather youthful progression to gray hair. The man wasn't even 30; yet he was prematurely graying. Perhaps on some level I connected with him because I felt then of what I now know. In the years since, I've heard the rumour a few times from my journalistic friends. However it is all but official and about to garner some headlines now. Anderson Cooper has been outted as a homosexual. Thank god this isn't another country where such news would send him to prison or worse. The discussion is already flowing fast on the MSNBCTV Group over on MSN. I'm sure it will hit TVNewser before too long as well. I'm avoiding most of the talk. I had always hoped Anderson would come out on his own time. It is unfortunate that he is being outted loud and clear by one of America's more popular gay magazines, Out. I think both sides of this discussion have a point. There is obviously something to be gained by the community at large by being who you are without apology. Especially someone who is so widely respected. For whatever reason however, Anderson Cooper has chosen to remain silent on this topic. That is his right. We should all respect those rights and wishes. "Is this a story?" some are asking. I'm sure there is a story to be had here...several even. The cork has been popped now. My hope is that Anderson can gracefully address the scuttlebutt while remaining as private as he would like to be. The bottom line however is that he is a public figure. His free pass for remaining closetted appears to have expired...whether it is right or not. You can read an excerpt of the article @ http://66.161.86.126/detail.asp?id=10297&t=voices. We'll see if this makes it into any mainstream press. MSN Newsbot Search: http://search.msn.com/news/results.aspx?FORM=QBNH&q=Anderson+Cooper+Gay&srch_type=1 |
